About Us.......

Located in Pittsburg, California, The Pittsburg Community Theatre was an Adult Education class from September, 1973, until April, 1978, when Proposition 13 forced caps on all but academic courses offered by the school. Six members struggled to continue to present plays while applying for non-profit status with Federal and State authorities. April 9, 1979, PCT was incorporated as a non-profit corporation in the State of California. Since that time PCT has performed 4 shows per season: a drama, a comedy, a musical and a children's theatre production. PCT also provides free half-hour entertainment for groups, clubs and the City of Pittsburg. PCT also provides a yearly scholarship for high school seniors. Members of PCT have volunteered their time and the group has donated equipment to the local high and elementary schools to supplement the performing arts education. PCT is governed by a nine member Board of Directors. Each member serves a three year term; terms are replaced on a rotating basis, which guarantees six experienced members at all times.

PCT is a company with many traditions but none more cherished than that of the "Gypsy" coat. Started during the production of "Oliver" in 1977, the coat, Fagan's jacket,  was giving to an outstanding cast member that the director saw as the person who put the most effort and time into the production. Their responsibility was to then to put on a symbol to represent the show and what it meant to them. Since then the coat has not only been given just to the cast, but has also been given to other members of the production from the house staff to the crew. To honor those who have received the coat, follow the link below to see the list of all of our past recipients.
